Jane Menken, professor of sociology and director of the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder, today received the prestigious title of distinguished professor from the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Board of Regents. She joins only 18 other ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder faculty members who currently hold the title of distinguished professor.

Journalists and photographers from The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News will share their views on the challenges and rewards of reporting on military operations in Afghanistan at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in the Hale Science Building, room 270. The panel discussion, "The Assignment of a Lifetime: Covering War in Afghanistan," will include two alumni from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder Natural Resources Law Center will host a conference on coal-bed methane April 4-5, providing a forum for diverse points of view to address the role of CBM in meeting America's energy challenges. The conference will be at the Comfort Inn conference complex at 401 17th St. in Denver, across the street from the Brown Palace Hotel.

The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder's ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Executive Development in Residence program, or CEDIR, is now accepting enrollment for this summer. The program offers experienced managers a critical overview of business fundamentals such as accounting, marketing and finance.

A University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder sociology professor has won a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant to develop coursework at a Taiwan criminology institute. Robert Regoli will spend two weeks working with the faculty at National Taipei University's National Criminology Institute to develop curriculum and research areas for graduate students. He will travel to Taiwan on March 23.

Recent satellite imagery analyzed at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder has revealed that the northern section of the Larsen B ice shelf, a large floating ice mass on the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula, has shattered and separated from the continent in the largest single event in a 30-year series of ice shelf retreats in the peninsula.

Professor Alison Jolly, known for her extensive contributions to primatology and primate conservation, will give a public lecture titled "Can the Lemurs Save Madagascar?" March 19 at 7 p.m. in room 270 of the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder's Hale Science Building. The lecture will be presented by the department of anthropology and funded by the Charles Joseph Norton Endowment.

University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder students majoring in the arts, humanities, engineering, education or music can gain business skills through a noncredit academic program offered during Maymester, which runs from May 13 to May 31. ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥BIC, the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Business Intensive Certificate, is a business education program for junior and senior non-business majors.

The ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Parents Association has awarded nearly $40,000 in grants to a variety of programs designed to enhance the experience of undergraduate students on the Boulder campus. Preference was given to projects that met the association's goals of enriching student life, building community, promoting diversity, improving student safety, enhancing career counseling and improving communication with parents and students.

Top sports reporters and a photographer will share the secrets of success in the highly competitive world of sports reporting and sports information on March 20th at 6 p.m. in the Eaton Humanities Building, room 150, at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder. The panel presentation, "Getting to the Big Time in Sports Reporting: Covering the Olympics and Handling the PR Behind the Scenes" will be moderated by Doug Looney, former senior writer for Sports Illustrated.
