The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder summer blood drive will be held on June 22 from noon to 3:30 p.m. in Baur Lounge of the Farrand Residence Hall. Donors may sign up for an appointment by calling (303) 492-5473 through June 21 or may drop in the day of the blood drive. Donors should be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and not be in an at-risk behavior group. They should eat within four hours of donating blood and drink lots of fluids before and after donating.

The Crystal Mountain Center for the Performing Arts and ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder's Summer Theatre Caravan will hold its third annual creativity camp for children ages 8-18 in Westcliffe the week of June 27-July 2. The classes will be held at the Jones Theatre, at 2nd and Main streets, under the instruction of two doctoral and four undergraduate ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder theater students from the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Summer Theatre Caravan.

The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder welcomes 40 students from the Denver metro area and New Mexico later this month for a four-day workshop entitled College Summit. More than half the students will come from George Washington, North and West High Schools in Denver to the Boulder campus June 24-27 to complete college admissions and financial aid applications.

The Summer Theatre Caravan from ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder will perform the romantic comedy, "It Had To Be You," in five ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ communities from June 25 through July 15 as part of its summer outreach program. The ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Summer Theatre Caravan has been performing and holding acting workshops across ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ since the summer of 1997 to foster the performing arts in smaller ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ communities. This summer the Caravan is coordinated by two doctoral and four undergraduate ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder theater students assisting with public performances and children's workshops.

A $9 million instrument designed and built at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder for a new NASA satellite is now set for launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on June 23. The $100 million Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer mission, or FUSE, will study the far UV light emanating from distant stars, galaxies, quasars and interstellar gas and dust, said James Green, principal investigator on the project and a professor at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-BoulderÂ’s Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy. CASA is an astronomy center located in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-BoulderÂ’s College of Arts and Sciences.

This yearÂ’s 42nd annual ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Shakespeare Festival is set for a scrumptious start on June 25 when the opening night audience is treated to a free dessert reception before the show. University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and Peter Spear, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will host the reception which starts at 7 p.m. in the Norlin Quadrangle. First night ticket holders will be able to mingle for 90 minutes sampling such goodies as champagne and strawberries before the curtain rises on "Henry IV Part 1."

Thirty minority high school students from around the state will attend the 12th Annual Business Leadership Program from June 13 to June 19 on the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder campus.

More than a dozen faculty and students from the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder are part of an international team that has launched an unprecedented experiment in an attempt to explain how the universeÂ’s matter came to exist.

Local children can learn about seasonal changes and celestial mysteries of the night sky at the next ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards show "Stars Overhead" on Saturday, June 19, on the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder campus. Katy Garmany, director of Fiske Planetarium and professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, will give the free presentation at 10 a.m. in the planetarium. The ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards program is recommended for children in grades five through nine. No reservations are required.

Michael Grant, professor of environmental, population and organismic biology, has been named associate vice chancellor for undergraduate education at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder. He will assume the position July 1, pending approval by the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Board of Regents in June. "I am confident that Michael will provide the excellent leadership that is needed to enhance undergraduate education at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder," said Phil DiStefano, vice chancellor for academic affairs. "He has proven that we can provide quality programs that will attract top scholars to the university."
