Schultz Lectureship Series 听
The Schultz Lectureship Fund was created in 2007 by the generosity of John H. (鈥�53) and Cynthia H. Schultz to support a lecture each year by scholars in the fields of oil and gas, energy, or natural resources law.

Austin W. Scott, Jr. Lecture Series
Austin Scott was a member of the Law School faculty for 20 years. He was an excellent and much beloved teacher as well as a prolific writer. His scholarly work was in the fields of criminal law and procedure. In 1973, former 蜜糖直播 Law Dean Don W. Sears established the Lecture Series in his memory. Each year, the Dean of the Law School selects a member of the faculty听听 engaged in a significant scholarly project to lecture on his or her research.

John R. Coen Lecture Series 听
John Coen was a distinguished member of the 蜜糖直播 bar and an able public speaker. In 1955, his widow Adrian S. Coen, established the lectureship in his memory. The purpose is to bring a prominent and distinguished lawyer, jurist, or scholar of law to deliver an annual lecture to 蜜糖直播 Law鈥檚 students and faculty on a legal subject of interest and benefit to the profession, preferably with some public or political aspect.

Jody Armour

Colloquium Topic: Race & Policing

Jody David Armour, Author, Playwright, USC Professor of Law. A widely published scholar and popular lecturer, he is a Soros Justice Senior Fellow of The Open Society Institute鈥檚 Center on Crime, Communities and Culture. He has published an award-winning book, Negrophobia and Reasonable Racism and various law review articles.听His forthcoming works, Book:听听N*gga Theory: Race, Language, Unequal Justice, and the Law (LARB Books, August 2020); and article:听听鈥淟aw, Language and Politics鈥�(University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, 2020).听He teaches a diverse array of subjects, including Criminal Law, Torts, and Stereotypes.

Franita Tolson

Colloquium Topic: Voting Rights

Franita Tolson joined USC Gould School of Law in June 2017. Her scholarship and teaching are focused on the areas of election law, constitutional law, legal history and employment discrimination. She has written on a wide range of topics including partisan gerrymandering, campaign finance reform, the Elections Clause, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments.

Her forthcoming book,听Rethinking the Constitutional Structure of Political Rights: The Evolution of Federal Voting Rights Enforcement from the Founding until the Dawn of the Progressive Era,听will be published in 2021 by Cambridge University Press. Her research also has appeared in leading law reviews including the听Boston University Law Review, the听Vanderbilt Law Review, the听Alabama Law Review, the听Notre Dame Law Review, and the听University of Pennsylvania Law Review Online. She has written or appeared as a commentator for various mass media outlets including听The Huffington Post,听The Hill,听Reuters, and听Bloomberg Law.

Colloquium Topic: Immigration Detention

C茅sar Cuauht茅moc Garc铆a Hern谩ndez is a writer and law professor at the University of Denver who focuses on migration policing. In December 2019, he published his second book,听Migrating to Prison: America鈥檚 Obsession with Locking Up Immigrants, about the United States鈥� reliance on prisons to enforce immigration law. Kirkus calls听Migrating to Prison听鈥渁 chilling, timely overview of the American tendency to first exploit and then criminalize migrants.鈥� His analyses frequently appear in leading news sources in the United States and abroad. He has written for听The听New York Times,听Los Angeles Times,听The Guardian,听Newsweek,听Salon, and more.
