TA/Instructor Agreement

Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) play a vital role in supporting and advancing ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder’s teaching mission. From assisting faculty to independently teaching courses, TAs contribute to student learning and gain valuable teaching experience.


What Do Graduate TAs Do?

Graduate TAs support faculty in various ways:

  • Conducting discussions, recitations, labs, or studios.
  • Holding office hours and leading review sessions.
  • Providing feedback, grading assignments, and creating course materials.
  • Assisting with exam questions and course development.
  • Teaching their own courses as Graduate Part-Time Instructors (GPTIs), sometimes with their own TAs.

Faculty Supervisors: Mentors for Success

Faculty supervisors (Instructors of Record) play a key role by:

  • Preparing TAs to teach within their discipline.
  • Mentoring TAs throughout their teaching journey.
  • Guiding TAs in developing discipline-specific teaching strategies.

This mentorship helps graduate students demonstrate teaching effectiveness, discuss their growth as educators, and provide evidence of their teaching impact—skills highly valued by hiring committees.
