University of ����ֱ�� Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today announced the appointment of Dr. Sharon F. Matusik as interim dean of the .

Dr. Matusik, who currently serves as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research and Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, will begin her new role in January 2017. She will take the helm from Bill Kaempfer, Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Budget and Planning, who has served in the role since mid-September.

Dr. Matusik’s research focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation, and venture capital. For example, she has looked at topics such as how markets value innovation activities of firms, what accounts for variation in profitability levels of entrepreneurial firms, how the diversification of a venture capital firm affects its performance, the development of risk capital markets around the globe, and gains from innovation activities in emerging markets. Her work has been published in top international academic journals, and is widely cited in the management field. She has also taught extensively at the undergraduate, MBA, executive, and Ph.D. level.

Dr. Matusik has served in numerous other leadership roles such as Academic Director of the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School, and as a Board member for non-profit organizations such as MBA Women International (formerly Graduate Women in Business (GWIB)). She speaks regularly on topics related to innovation and entrepreneurship, and advises local entrepreneurial ventures. ��She is the 2014 recipient of the Leeds School’s William H. Baughn Distinguished Service award, and has also received awards for her research, teaching, and service to her profession. Dr. Matusik worked in the field of consulting before entering academics.

“I am exceedingly pleased that Sharon has accepted the position of interim dean of the Leeds School of Business,” Moore said. “She will be an exceptional leader for the college and a great asset not only to my leadership team, but also to the university as a whole. I believe she will build upon our previous successes and continue to improve the experiences of our students, faculty and staff.”

Moore also thanked Senior Vice Provost Bill Kaempfer for serving in the interim dean role for the past two months. “His ability to engage the Leeds community is a credit to his professionalism and demeanor. I appreciate his hard work and look forward to his return to my office.” ��

Dr. Matusik earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics and English from Colby College in Maine and a doctoral degree in Strategic Management from the University of Washington. She has been at the University of ����ֱ�� since 2004.
