This week we want to bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault on college campuses around the country. Sexual assault is a horrendous crime that needs to end. Look out for those around you and make sure your friends, sisters, brothers, colleagues and fellow students get home safely. It is time to act. It ends with us.

Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner abuse, is best understood as a pattern of abusive behaviors–including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse as well as economic coercion–used by one intimate partner against another to gain, maintain, or regain power and control in the relationship. The HAWK (High-intensity Activated crossWalK) light on Regent Drive near ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Avenue has been provided by the city of Boulder to allow pedestrians, bikers and boarders a safe way to cross a busy street. After receiving several reports of a non-ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ text alert received by some affiliates yesterday, campus officials began an investigation with the vendor that provides our text alert system, RAVE Mobile Safety. Searches in social media further revealed that the same message was being received by affiliates at many universities across the United States.

During the two incidents yesterday, we heard from some of you about some of the terms we used in our emergency communication. We hope this will help everyone understand what the terms mean and why we use them.

The campus will conduct a test of the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder Alerts system on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at noon to raise awareness of how the campus community will be notified in case of a campus emergency. The test will include text messages, emails, social media and website announcements. Annual testing of emergency notification systems is required by the Clery Act, a federal law.

In an effort to provide a safer environment for fans and expedite entry into Folsom Field, the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ will be implementing a clear bag policy at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ football games beginning this season.

Data collected by the city of Boulder's transportation division shows that nearly half of all collisions within the city occur at intersections, and that crosswalks are the most common locations for collisions between motor vehicles and bicyclists or pedestrians.

Electronic devices are valuable resources for students, faculty and staff on the go. Our phones, tablets, and laptops often contain personal information and data that is important to us, but, they also have great value to thieves and burglars. Registering your device can be an important step in preventing victimization.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 26, police from the City of Boulder and the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder will step up enforcement of the city’s traffic laws in and around several of Boulder’s top locations for motor vehicle collisions involving a bicyclist or pedestrian as part of the Heads Up Boulder crosswalk safety campaign.
