A $5 million Earth-orbiting satellite designed and built by a team of University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder students, faculty and engineers is currently slated for launch from CaliforniaÂ’s Vandenberg Air Force Base on Feb. 4.

In response to student feedback, the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder has developed a new “limited-privacy” option for students who donÂ’t want their names and addresses released for use in directories or mass mailings. Effective Feb. 2, students will be able to protect themselves from mass mailings while continuing to allow public access to certain kinds of information if they select the “limited-privacy” option for their records maintained by the campus.

Physics doesn't have to be boring and a new site on the World Wide Web featuring cartoon characters and action-filled experiments aims to prove it. The site was developed by physics professors at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder and is intended for non-scientists and students of all ages. It allows users to conduct more than 30 interactive "virtual experiments" on their computer screens and then get an explanation of what they are seeing.

But why has it taken so long for astronomers to verify the existance of other worlds, suspected since long before recorded time? And what is the next step in determining whether there is life on another planet? The discovery of several new planets beyond our solar system during the last two years will be the topic of a new star show at Fiske Planetarium at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder.

Media resources include audio-video materials, microfiche and microfilm.

The School of Law at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ will sponsor a day-long symposium titled Crime is Not the Problem: Lethal Violence in America. The forum will be from 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Fleming Law Building. The content was inspired by a book by the same name written by Franklin Zimring and Gordon Hawkins. The public is invited to register for the symposium, which is $65 prior to Feb. 14 and $75 thereafter, by calling Debra Sparn at 492-6145.

When a customer had a technical question about his answering machine, he used the Internet to find the manufacturer's contact information. Yahoo offered him access to the companyÂ’s site, but when he clicked on that choice, he found himself at a sex site. The customer called the manufacturer to report the Internet problem, and the representative chuckled. They had known about the mix-up for a week. Amusing? Not when you think of the potential impact on the manufacturer's image, according to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder marketing Professor Tom Duncan.

A University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder research team has created several strains of transgenic mice that carry gene mutations for a heart disease that has been shown to be the leading cause of sudden death in young athletes.
