Anne Tolbert has been named acting controller at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder, pending approval by the Board of Regents. Tolbert has worked at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder in various capacities since 1981, most recently as manager of plant fund accounting and payroll accounting. Her salary will be $73,000 and she is expected to assume the duties of controller on April 25, if the appointment is approved.

The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at BoulderÂ’s Science Discovery program will host a night of family entertainment featuring a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizard Show and a Square Dance Extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 19 at the First Congregational Church of Boulder. Proceeds from the event will benefit Science Discovery, an outreach program of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder that offers science presentations to young people through field trips, workshops, wilderness camps and other programs.

Five finalists for dean of the School of Education at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder will begin campus visits on Sunday, April 13. Following campus visits by each of the five finalists the search committee, chaired by Engineering Dean Ross Corotis, will make its final recommendation on the position to Wallace Loh, vice chancellor for academic affairs. Edward C. Stone, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and internationally known planetary scientist, will lecture at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder April 15 in a talk titled “The Search for Life Elsewhere.” Stone has served as the project scientist for NASAÂ’s Voyager mission since 1972 and coordinated the efforts of 11 teams of scientists in their studies of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. As the lead U.S. center for the robotic exploration of the solar system, JPL is managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology.

BOULDER -- The two finalists for the position of chancellor of the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder have confirmed official visits to the campus next week. Dr. John Moseley, vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Oregon, and Dr. Richard Byyny, interim chancellor of the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder, will visit the campus beginning with Moseley on Monday, April 14 (through Wednesday, April 16) and concluding with Byyny on Thursday, April 17 (through Friday, April 18).

A description of how ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-BoulderÂ’s Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory was developed might read a little like the Gettysburg Address with the addition of the word student: of the students, by the students and for the students. The three-story, 34,000 square foot laboratory is intended primarily for use by undergraduate engineering students and this semester is being used for freshmen, sophomore and junior courses.

* The ITLL facility was designed by the Denver architectural firm of Klipp, Colussy, Jenks and DuBois with assistance by NBBJ Architects of San Francisco and Sheere/Leese Architects of Denver. It was built by M.A. Mortenson Co. of Denver. * ITLL will accommodate up to 1,200 students a day, about one-half of the undergraduate engineering student body population at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder. The building will be open for use 16 hours a day, seven days a week with the goal of having every engineering undergraduate using the facility every semester.

Editors: A media tour of the ITLL will be at 10 a.m. April 22 beginning at the east entrance of the engineering college. The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder will dedicate a one-of-a-kind, $17 million hands-on learning facility April 24 that was designed and built to provide real-world engineering experience to more than 1,200 undergraduates a day.
