The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder will host National History Day in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ May 3 for students in sixth through 12th grades in schools across the state. Judging for the seven categories of competition will begin at 9 a.m. in Hellems Arts and Sciences Building, the Education Building and the University Memorial Center.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Alumni Association Names 1997 Award Winners

Ceremonies honoring seven winners of the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder Alumni AssociationÂ’s 67th annual awards will be held May 15 in Old Main Chapel on campus. The George Norlin Award to distinguished alumni for lifetime achievement and devotion to the betterment of society will be presented to Les Fowler of Boulder and Alfred Harrell of Denver. Fowler, a 1948 business graduate, was honored for his contribution to higher education while serving more than two decades in the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Legislature and for volunteering his skills as a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ golf coach.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Campus Closes Noon April 24 Due To Snow

Campus Closure The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder will close at noon today, Thursday, April 24, except for essential services and the engineering college lab dedication, which will proceed as scheduled, according to Interim Chancellor Richard Byyny. Because essential services will be maintained, employees should check with their supervisors or department heads for instructions. Also, the dedication of the Intergrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, scheduled for this afternoon, will proceed as planned, university officials said.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ This Summer Program To Offer Cultural Events Throughout State

Ten ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ communities will host the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at BoulderÂ’s outreach program, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ This Summer, providing art and museum exhibits, dance and music performances throughout the state. According to estimates, more than 300,000 individuals have attended ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ This Summer events in the nine years the popular community outreach program has traveled around the state.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Undergraduates To Present Research Findings

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder undergraduates will present research findings in the fields of psychology, biology and kinesiology on April 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ 20 students will offer poster displays explaining their research results and will be available to answer questions. Topics include the effects of anxiety on memory and the effects of underwater running on running performance. ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder students and the general public are invited to attend.

Local Businessman Bob Charles Given Dean's Award For Excellence

The College of Business and Administration at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder has honored Robert F. (Bob) Charles with the 1997 DeanÂ’s Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence. Charles, who moved to Boulder in 1965 with his wife, Judy, managed BoulderÂ’s original McDonaldÂ’s on 28th Street. By 1969 he owned that store and had opened another on Baseline. In the early 1990s, Charles operated 11 franchises and was heralded as the Burger Baron of Boulder County. He presently owns three stores – two in Arvada and one in Westminster.

The University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at BoulderÂ’s Hawaiian student organization, Hui O Mau Hoaaloha, will hold itÂ’s seventh annual luÂ’au on April 26 in the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder campus. Doors open at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a Polynesian revue consisting of Tahitian, Maori, Samoan and Hawaiian dancing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will also be special guest performances by Hawaiian singer Palani Vaughan and Miss Aloha Hula, Hewa Vaughan.

Donald Lichtenstein has studied marketing techniques and consumer behavior in all types of stores for 15 years. From the front of a store to the back, he has suggestions on techniques shoppers can use to get more value for their money. "I love a deal," says Lichtenstein. "When that blue light goes off something in my blood just starts percolating."
