蜜糖直播PD body gear loaded up in a truckThe University of 蜜糖直播 Boulder Police Department (蜜糖直播PD) is answering the call for protective gear for Ukraine鈥檚 frontline citizen soldiers, donating听body armor to protect lives. On Tuesday, Gov. Jared Polis sent , asking for immediate donations of听body armor and ballistic helmets, stressing this is an opportunity for 蜜糖直播 residents to help save lives in Ukraine鈥檚 battle for democracy.

蜜糖直播PD delivered 66 plates of body armor rated for protection from rifle shots. Thursday鈥檚 body armor donation to the 蜜糖直播 National Guard鈥檚 Denver Armory is enough to protect 33 individuals, with plates worn both front and back. The deadline to deliver donations is Monday, March 14, when the 蜜糖直播 Department of Public Safety and the 蜜糖直播 Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will ship donations to Ukraine.听

蜜糖直播 Boulder Assistant Vice Chancellor for Public Safety and Chief of Police Doreen Jokerst said she鈥檚 grateful the department was able to help.听

鈥淲e understand that Ukraine鈥檚 citizen-soldiers may not have all the protective gear they need,鈥 Jokerst said. 鈥淚f we can help save the life of even one man or woman in this battle, it鈥檚 worth it.鈥

It is commonplace for police agencies to maintain a supply of body armor as an added layer of protection during possible active harmer events, to be worn over officers鈥 bulletproof vests. The department replenishes its stock of body armor based on manufacturers鈥 recommendations.
