What is a Global Seminar?

• Short-term international programs taught by ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ faculty in the summer
• Last approximately 2–6 weeks for 3–8 credits depending on content
• ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder courses taught abroad that fulfill degree/major requirements
• Provide a small group experience that allows students and faculty to build strong connections
• Offer an international experience for students who cannot study abroad for a semester or year

   Zagreb, Split & Dubrovnik, Croatia    May 8–27    Apply by Feb. 1
Study in the coastal country of Croatia and gain an understanding of the critical relationship between business and culture. The course introduces students to all the international business disciplines as you visit companies, organizations and institutions throughout Croatia. Study with Faculty Director Antonio Papuzza—international business consultant, coach certified at the International Coach Federation and business faculty member.

Expand your knowledge of French history and politics through experiential learning in Paris. Immerse yourself in the history of the French Revolution and the Paris Commune by exploring the palaces, prisons and streets where it all happened. Taught by Michaele Ferguson, associate professor of political science and a President’s Teaching Scholar whose research focuses on radical/grassroots democracy and revolutionary politics. 

   Oaxaca, Mexico    May 14–28    Apply by Feb. 1
Learn about the impressive history of the peoples of Mexico prior to colonization by visiting ancient archaeological sites, including ongoing excavation and research of a 1,200-year-old city. Discover the diverse cultures of the Zapotec, Mixtec, and Chatino peoples of Oaxaca, Mexico. Study with Professor Arthur Joyce, whose research focuses on the pre-Columbian peoples of Mesoamerica particularly surrounding issues of power, political dynamics and landscape. 

   Lisbon, Portugal    June 1–23     Apply by March 1
Explore the cosmopolitan and multicultural city of Lisbon, which played a fundamental role in the Age of Discovery, and which has contemporary social and cultural significance. The program includes trips to emblematic buildings, monuments and museums as well as workshops on culinary, music and street art (particularly graffiti). Learn with Faculty Director Marcelo Schincariol, instructor of Portuguese. 

   Yerevan, Armenia    June 22–July 27    Apply by March 1
Take a practicum teaching English as a second language to Armenians while exploring social justice issues in the beautiful South Caucuses of Eurasia. Learn about Armenian culture and history, including Armenian identity, literature, mythology, interactions with neighboring countries, and resiliency. Study with Rai Farrelly, senior instructor and TESOL coordinator in the Department of Linguistics.
