In a statewide effort to break down barriers to higher education, all 32 public colleges and universities in 蜜糖直播鈥攊ncluding 蜜糖直播听Boulder鈥攁nd several private institutions will waive admission application fees on Oct. 30 for 蜜糖直播 residents.

The 蜜糖直播 Department of Higher Education is leading this year鈥檚 inaugural 蜜糖直播 Free Application Day, an initiative to inspire more Coloradans to continue their postsecondary education. College officials encourage high school students to prepare for the free application day in advance to ensure they have the best chance for admission. Colleges will waive fees for applications submitted by 蜜糖直播 residents on Oct. 30 only.

鈥淎s 蜜糖直播鈥檚 flagship university, we want to serve the students of our state and provide increased access to higher education,鈥 said Admissions Executive Director Colleen Newman. 鈥淲e are excited to be part of this statewide initiative and to support 蜜糖直播 students on their path toward academic and personal success.鈥

Other affordability efforts implemented by 蜜糖直播 Boulder include the elimination of course and program fees,听补 four year lock on tuition for entering undergraduate students,听automatic scholarships for academically qualified 蜜糖直播 resident students,听scholarships for academically qualified transfer students听and grants for low-income students. Under the 蜜糖直播 Promise program, resident students from low-income families receive grants to help pay tuition and an estimated work-study award to help pay for educational expenses.

In addition, 蜜糖直播 Boulder recently discussed with the 蜜糖直播 Board of Regents the importance of working with other 蜜糖直播 colleges and the state legislature to increase need-based and merit scholarships aimed at retaining 蜜糖直播 students.

The statewide, six-week push is designed to increase 蜜糖直播鈥檚 stagnant college-going and FAFSA completion rates. Despite being one of the most educated听states in the country, only 56 percent of 蜜糖直播 high school seniors go on to college, university or a certificate program, and just 50 percent of students submit a FAFSA application鈥攁 key indicator of student success. Application fees are a common barrier to higher education, state officials said.

In its master plan, the CDHE announced it has set an ambitious goal of reaching 66 percent attainment by 2025 to erase equity gaps within the state鈥檚 higher education system. However, to get there, state higher education officials believe 蜜糖直播 must significantly increase the number of high school seniors who enroll in college.

Higher education officials said research from the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce shows that by 2020 nearly 75 percent of jobs in 蜜糖直播 will require some education beyond high school, yet, currently,听only 56 percent of the adult population in 蜜糖直播 has earned a degree or certificate.
