The Office of Undergraduate Education is excited to announce the launch of a new academic and exploratory advising center. ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder Today sat down with Assistant Vice Provost for Advising and Academic Services Shelly BaconÌýto learn what this change means for students.

Which types of students is this new center intended to serve?
The University Exploration & Advising Center (UEAC) is designed to expand our ability to support undergraduate students whose interests span multiple colleges. This is part of a coordinated campus-wide effort to provide additional support to our first-year and international student communities, specifically those who have been admitted to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ but not to their school or college of choice. This new center will specialize in advising across all colleges and will partner closely with advising units and student support offices around campus.
So this center is for students who have interests in multiple colleges but haven’t decided which path is right for them?
Yes, it hasn’t been as easy, as we’d like for students to explore across colleges, especially in the first year. Partnering closely with college-based advising units will be essential. Our college-based advising teams provide support that is grounded in expertise of the fields in each college, and the UEAC will help first-year students in particular to explore all of the options the campus offers and to discover and then engage with the college that offers the best academic path.
Will this new advising center support students beyond those who haven’t been admitted to their school or college of choice?
The University Exploration & Advising Center will also offer ad hoc advising support for prospective students interested in coming to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ as well asÌýto current students transferring between colleges on the Boulder campus. Any student who is exploring or transitioning is welcome to drop by and have a conversation with UEAC staff.
How will students engage with this new advising center?
We’ll be supporting our incoming first-year cohort through and will be building a UEAC web presence and meeting with key campus partners over the coming months. The center will launch this summer and be located in Regent Hall until its eventual move to the new CASE (Center for Academic Success and Engagement) building when construction is complete.
