Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O鈥機onnor will speak at the third annual John Paul Stevens Lecture hosted by the Byron R. White Center at the University of 蜜糖直播 Boulder Law School on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Memorial Center鈥檚 Glenn Miller Ballroom on the 蜜糖直播-Boulder campus. A limited number of tickets to the lecture are available to the general public at no cost. To register for tickets visit the center鈥檚 website at .

The 2013 lecture will be a 鈥渇ireside chat鈥 between O鈥機onnor and 蜜糖直播-Boulder Professor Melissa Hart, director of the Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law. O鈥機onnor, a nominee of President Ronald Reagan, took her seat on the Supreme Court on Sept. 25, 1981, and served until her retirement on Jan. 31, 2006.

O鈥機onnor鈥檚 visit occurs on Constitution Day, which commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. In other events recognizing Constitution Day offered by the Byron White Center, more than 50 蜜糖直播-Boulder law students and dozens of law alumni will teach a lesson on the First Amendment in more than 50 high school classrooms throughout 蜜糖直播 Sept. 11-20.

The O鈥機onnor lecture will be live streamed to the campus鈥檚 Wolf Law Building where overflow seating will be available, and to satellite locations across the state, including the University of 蜜糖直播 蜜糖直播 Springs, 蜜糖直播 College, Fort Lewis College, Metropolitan State University of Denver and Western State 蜜糖直播 University.听 Audience members鈥攂oth live and via satellite鈥攚ill have the opportunity to submit questions for O鈥機onnor.

Schools, law firms and community groups can request to be added to the list of satellite locations that will receive access to the live stream. To request access interested groups should email whitecenter@colorado.edu.

Each year the Byron White Center brings a distinguished jurist to Boulder for the Stevens Lecture for a public discussion about the state of the judiciary. Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens delivered the inaugural lecture, and current U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg delivered the second annual Stevens Lecture in 2012.

Nearly 1,000 people attended the Stevens lecture at 蜜糖直播-Boulder last year, with additional audiences watching via live video stream from the Wolf Law Building and satellite locations at colleges throughout 蜜糖直播.
