Roop L. Mahajan has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position of dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder.
Mahajan, who is serving as interim dean of the college for the 2001-02 academic year, was one of five finalists named for the position last month. He cited personal and professional reasons for his decision to withdraw.Ìý
A ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder faculty member for 10 years and director of two interdisciplinary research centers, Mahajan also leads the college's initiative in micro and nano systems.
Four remaining finalists for the dean position will participate in campus interviews this month. The finalists, their home institutions and the dates of their campus interviews are: Reza Abbaschian, University of Florida, Gainesville, April 8-9; Paul Cohen, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, April 15-16; Robert H. Davis, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder, April 18-19; Way Kuo, Texas A&M University, April 22-23.
The campus administration hopes to have a new dean in place by July 1. James F. Williams II, dean of libraries, is serving as chair of the search committee.
