Editors: Students are signing up for University Village apartments today through 5 p.m. at the University Club, Garden Room, near the corner of Broadway and Euclid Avenue at 972 Broadway.

Additional housing for students at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder is now available and more units are scheduled to be completed in the next two years, resulting in 1,379 new beds, according to Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs.

"The adequacy of student housing has been a priority issue for the Boulder campus, as well as the community, for some time," he said. "We are pleased that we are able to take off some pressure for this year, and that we'll have even greater capacity each year for the next two years."Ìý

A total of 479 new student beds will be available by the fall.

Recently 170 rooms at the university-owned College Inn Conference Center were designated for permanent student housing. The rooms will be renovated in the coming months and ready for occupancy in the fall.

In addition, 309 new beds in University Village, a new student community developed by American Campus Communities, are being rented to students for this fall. University Village is located on Taft Drive and offers fully furnished private three- and four-bedroom apartments with a variety of amenities.

The university is currently in negotiation with American Campus Communities to develop the Williams Village Student Housing Expansion Project.

According to the Williams Village Master Site Development Plan, units providing a minimum of 450 new beds will be fully completed and ready for occupancy by Aug. 1, 2003. Additional units providing a minimum of 450 new beds will be fully completed and ready for occupancy no later than Aug. 1, 2004. Given favorable market conditions, full build-out of the project is expected by 2008.

The additional units at the College Inn, University Village and Williams Village will provide 1,379 new beds for students, an increase of 23 percent over what is currently available on campus.
