Jamal Ward has been appointed to the position of university counselor at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder's Cultural Unity Center, according to Dale Trevino, director of the center.
Ward has held the position on a temporary basis since last fall. The appointment has been approved by Chancellor Byyny and was effective immediately.
"The Cultural Unity Center is excited to have Jamal join the staff as a university counselor and coordinator for African American student services. He brings many years of experience and expertise working with students, staff and faculty of color on the Boulder campus and is committed to building a caring and responsive multicultural community," Trevino said.
Ward previously served as assistant director of admissions for two years and as an admissions counselor for four years at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder. His experience also includes service on several diversity boards and committees.
"I am profoundly pleased and delighted to join the staff at the Cultural Unity Center," Ward said. "While there are a number of excellent programs and services already in place, I look forward to making a contribution in the area of new and innovative programs for students of color and building upon the success that my predecessors and current colleagues have worked so diligently toward," he said.
Ward holds a cooperative bachelor's degree in journalism and speech communications from Northwest Christian College and the University of Oregon at Eugene.
The Cultural Unity Center provides support for the university's mission to enhance student recruitment, retention and graduation, with a particular focus on minority students. The center also offers programs and services for the university community to strengthen understanding and appreciation of the cultural, social and political awareness of diverse communities and their contributions.
