Two new programs at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder designed to support the campusÂ’s Building Community initiative, encourage networking and increase staff awareness of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder's role in the four-campus system will begin in September.

An intensive awareness-building program, called Boulder Campus Perspective, was piloted last spring and will consist of six half-day sessions scheduled from September through December. A companion program, called University Perspective, is being launched as a pilot this fall to complement the Boulder Campus Perspective.

Boulder Campus Perspective, which begins Sept. 1, will require attendance at meetings of several standing university organizations including the Boulder Staff Council, the Boulder Faculty Assembly and the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Student Union.

Participants also will spend up to an hour at another participantÂ’s work site to learn about other departmentsÂ’ missions.

Nominations for the Boulder Campus Perspective are being accepted now through July 31 for ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder employees who want to become more knowledgeable about the inner workings of the institution. Up to 20 employees will be accepted for the program, now in its second semester of existence, according to Shashi Pillai, program coordinator and instructor with the Office of Organizational and Employee Development.

To be nominated, employees must have received a positive performance rating of fully competent or higher from their supervisors.

Employees also may nominate themselves for the program, according to Pillai. To encourage a mix of employees from various backgrounds, Organizational and Employee Development is requesting several nominations from the chancellor and each of the four vice chancellor areas including academic affairs, student affairs, administration and business and finance. ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ system administration also will nominate employees.

The University Perspective program will be open to all past participants of Boulder Campus Perspective and will focus on increasing awareness of the Boulder campusÂ’s role within the four-campus ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ system, Pillai said.

The nine-session program beginning in September and ending in May 2001 will cover the roles of the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ president, the Board of Regents, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ system interaction with the state Legislature, the Silver and Gold Record faculty-staff newspaper, the Denver, Health Sciences and ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Springs campuses, and other topics.

Half-day sessions will be scheduled with speakers and panels during the first one to two hours of each session with the remaining time used for group discussion of that dayÂ’s topic, to cover questions about upcoming topics or to network with other participants.

Nomination letters and forms should be submitted to the appropriate vice chancellor office by July 31.
