Several free events will be offered during the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder Spring Parents Weekend, Feb. 25-27, including presentations on jazz music, the challenges of the 21st century and off-campus housing.
Parents and the general public are invited to attend.
Last year's most popular session, "Finding Housing Off Campus," will be presented by Dale Severance, director of Off-Campus Student Services. Severance will discuss housing costs, landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities, and provide information on available housing services.
Housing sessions will take place on Friday, Feb. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in University Memorial Center room 157A&B, and Saturday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in UMC room 159A&B.
Following Friday's housing session, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Professor Michael Pagan will present a lecture and demonstration on jazz music from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in Imig Music Building room E-160. That evening, parents can also enjoy performances by two student groups from the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in the Imig Music Building.
On Friday afternoon, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Professor Jim Palmer will present "The Right Stuff," a film about the selection of the first American astronauts, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., tentatively scheduled in MCD Biology Building room A2B70. Palmer, who teaches film studies, will present a lecture and discussion on the film the following day from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in Hale Science Building room 270.
On Saturday, astrophysicist Joe Romig will lecture on "What Does the 21st Century Hold?" from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the UMC Forum Room. Romig, a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder alumnus and ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ football All American, will talk about the challenges of the new century, including energy and food shortages, and how universities and industry can work together to solve these problems.
Spring Parents Weekend offers parents a chance to visit with their sons or daughters, meet other parents and experience some of the top academic and cultural offerings ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder has to offer.
