WHO: The Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR) is hosting an open house for more than 350 middle school students from BoulderÂ’s Southern Hills, Monarch and Baseline schools.

WHERE: The INSTAAR building is located in RL1, 1560 30th St., on the east campus of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder. The building is located one building south of the intersection of Arapahoe and 30th streets.)

WHEN: Friday, Nov. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

9:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Room 141- homemade ice cream will be made using stabilizing isotopes (liquid nitrogen).

9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Students will conduct hands-on experiments in Boulder Creek near Scott Carpenter Park.

WHY: INSTAAR'S open house is designed to convey the excitement of alpine and polar research to middle school students in an experiential (hands-on) and in-depth manner.

WHAT: Four presentations supplemented by INSTAAR. The general plan is to schedule presentations on an hourly basis in the main seminar room at INSTAAR.
