Ronald J. Stump, associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder, will serve as the interim vice chancellor for student affairs beginning May 16, pending approval by the Board of Regents April 22.
Stump has served as associate vice chancellor and dean of students since 1996. Chancellor Richard Byyny appointed Stump to the interim position following the resignation of Jean Kim, vice chancellor for student affairs, effective May 15.
"I believe my decision provides for continuity of leadership that will be important during this transition," Byyny said.
"The support within student affairs has been gratifying and very helpful," said Stump. "My intent is to provide the leadership necessary for student affairs to continue its good work on behalf of students without missing a beat."
Prior to coming to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥, Stump served as associate dean of students at the University of Virginia. He also has held administrative positions in student affairs at Michigan State University and Northern Michigan University.
Stump earned his doctorate in Higher Education Administration at Michigan State University.
He has conducted classes and workshops at a variety of universities and agencies on male gender issues, goal-setting, planning, group cohesion, values-clarification, student group advising, problem solving and the relationship of student organizations with universities. He has served on several advisory boards and councils, and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards from academic and student organizations.
Stump's appointment is for an indefinite term.
