David L. Haberman, a nationally recognized expert on Hinduism, will deliver the inaugural Robert C. Lester Lecture on the Study of Religion next week at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder.
"Religious Studies 2000: Lessons of a Student of Hinduism," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building on Thursday, Feb. 11.
Haberman, a 1976 honors graduate of the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥, earned advanced degrees from the University of Chicago, and is now an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Indiana. The widely published scholar has received numerous grants and awards and has done extensive fieldwork in India.
The new lecture series was created to salute Robert C. Lester, the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ professor emeritus who established the universityÂ’s program of religious studies in 1972. He retired in 1998.
The annual lectureship will present original work that addresses contemporary issues in religious studies.
