As part of "ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ in the Community" month at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder, faculty, staff and students will be painting two youth shelters, helping to build a Habitat for Humanity house and hosting elementary students from Denver and Boulder on campus this Saturday, Oct. 24.

Activities on National "Make A Difference" day, Saturday, will match faculty, staff and students who want to help out with programs that need support. They include:

** Painting at Attention Homes, Boulder's shelters for abused, neglected and homeless teen-agers. Work at two of the homes begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and extends through the early afternoon. Painting will be done at Bridge Home, 3682 Chase Court, a long-term home for boys, and the Broadway Youth Shelter, a crisis center for boys and girls at 3080 Broadway.

** Children and their families from the Denver and Boulder area will be hosted on campus for a day of programs and learning. Activities include hands-on science experiments, computer workshops, a planetarium show and ice skating. Activities involve the following ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder departments, which have volunteered to host the children: Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Services, School of Education, Fiske Planetarium, Information Technology Services, Recreation Center, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Space Grant College and the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory. Children will participate from schools in Lafayette and Denver, and from Boulder's I Have a Dream foundation program. One of the schedules is attached.

** Fifty members of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥'s Navy ROTC will help build a Habitat for Humanity house at 2284 Violet Ave. in north Boulder. One crew will work from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and one from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The morning crew will be driven to and from the site on a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder Buff Bus.

On-going activities during "ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ in the Community" month include Project Warmth, a month-long coat drive to benefit BoulderÂ’s Share-A-Coat for holiday distribution. Employees also are making contributions to the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Combined Campaign charitable giving program, and are learning about ways to volunteer throughout Boulder County.
