Children will no longer be lost in space after the June 13 ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards science show at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder.
Professor Katy Garmany of astrophysical and planetary sciences will use special effects at Fiske Planetarium for the 10 a.m. Saturday presentation on "Finding Your Way Around the Sky." The one-hour show is intended for children in grades five through nine and is free and open to the public.
Using a "moon on a stick," Germany will demonstrate how to create a model of what many people view in the sky at night, including seasonal changes and phases of the moon. She also will discuss star explosions.
"I'm hoping that kids will go away understanding the reasons for the seasons and why the moon shows phases," Garmany said.
Garmany has presented astronomy ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards Shows for the past two years. She has taught astronomy at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder since 1974 and also is a fellow of JILA, a joint institute of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Free parking for the show is available in lot 308 near the planetarium.
