University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Professors Tarek Sammakia and Gordon Yee are sure to whip up some fun Feb. 28 in “Polymers, Foams and Gels,” the next segment of the popular ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards science series for children.
The chemistry and biochemistry professors will perform a variety of demonstrations including making slime, blowing up a hydrogen balloon and dissolving a styrofoam mannequin with nail polish remover.
Preparing to do the show for the third year in a row, the professors offer this tongue-in-cheek warning: “If you sit in the back of the auditorium you will be less likely to be in the line of fire.”
The free show begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in Chemistry room 140, on the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥-Boulder campus. The Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building is located immediately north of the University Memorial Center, at Broadway and Euclid Avenue.
The program, recommended for children in grades 5 through 9, is the sixth in a series of 10 science shows to be presented during the 1997-98 academic year. The monthly shows are designed to informally introduce students to astronomy, chemistry and physics.
Close-in parking is available for $1.25 in the Euclid Avenue Autopark east of the UMC. Anyone with a disability or special need is asked to notify the physics department at 492-6952 a few days in advance of the show. For general information about the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Wizards schedule and locations, call 492-4318.
