Course Assistants

These positions assist with all aspects of the course, and generally provide guidance for students adjusting to college and studying engineering.

Salary starts at $15/hr. Approximately 5-8 hrs/week

  • Work directly with student teams

  • Provide assistance on design solutions, fabrication, and creation of projects

  • Direct students to available resources.

  • Set up and help for end of semester Design Expo

  • Help with grading presentations, reports, and other assignments

GEEN 2400 & 3400 Projects Course Assistants

Salary starts at $15/hr. Approximately 5-8 hrs/week

Note: Hours may be flexible.

The Lead Course Assistant aids in leading, organizing, and communicating with course assistants (CAs) for all GEEN 1400: Engineering Projects sections. This position also helps to set-up and monitor the end of semester Projects Design Expo. 

Position Requirements: Applicants must have completed a first year projects course (GEEN 1400, ECEN 1400, ASEN 1400, COEN 1400); must be a current student in CEAS with good academic standing. Previous experience as a course assistant, especially for a GEEN projects course, is preferred. 

Additional Information: 

Position is approximately 3-10 hours per week, with 7-10 hours the weeks before and during Expo. Salary starts at $15/hr.

The IDE Program seeks exceptional engineering students to serve as Course Assistants (CAs) for various courses.

CAs work directly with students, answering questions, providing expertise, and directing students towards available resources. CAs may help with grading presentations, reports and other assignments, and they will directly assist students with online resources and in various fabrication facilities in the ITLL (manufacturing center, electronics center, 3D printing, etc.).

Salary starts at $15/hr. Approximately 5-8 hrs/week

Undergraduate and graduate student assistant opportunities are available in the Program with administrative and communications work. The following are examples: 

Assisting frontline operations 

  • Answering general e-mails inquiries from students, staff, faculty and other persons 
  •  Working on projects such as data collection, enrollment tallies, admissions numbers tracking, etc. 
  • Data entry, filing, updating records, etc. 
  • Supporting faculty and staff with business needs and events (ordering materials and supplies; printing; calling vendors for events, etc.) 
  • Providing administrative support for IDE Program & Office operations 

Marketing / Communications 

  • Posting organic social media content, report on metrics 
  • Assisting with managing website updates & maintenance 
  • Updating alumni database  
  • Contacting prospective students 
  • Provide logistical support for Program events  
  • Performing market research/analysis,  
  • Creating simple marketing literature, flyers and brochures 
  • Assisting with marketing initiatives for upcoming events  

Pay range: $16 - $18 per hour 

  • The starting pay rate depends on student’s skills, qualifications and experience in the respective area. 
  • The pay rate may increase after the first semester is possible dependent upon the student’s performance and length of employment.

Student hourly positions are not permanent employees and hired on a semester-by-semester basis.

Temporary Faculty and Lecturers

Each semester the Integrated Design Engineering Program may seek Lecturers and Adjuncts to teach a variety of courses to engineers and technical professionals in the area of integrated design engineering. These teaching roles are filled on an as-needed basis semester to semester.

The title of Lecturer or Adjunct is given to individuals who teach on a course-by-course basis. 

Minimum Requirements

  • A graduate degree or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in engineering design principles, including iterative design processes, testing, and analysis.
  • Ability to mentor and support first-year students as they transition to university-level engineering programs.
  • Familiarity with team dynamics and strategies for fostering effective interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Experience managing multiple project teams, or equivalent leadership experience in coordinating groups and ensuring alignment with goals.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and fostering success among diverse student populations, including underrepresented groups in engineering such as women, racial and ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in teaching or using a range of engineering tools (e.g., programming microcontrollers, computer-aided design (CAD), design for manufacturability, or other related tools).

Compensation ranges from $8,000 - $12,000 per course, depending on the teaching assignment, instructor qualifications, and what semester the course is being taught.

  • GEEN 2851: Statics for Engineers
