- As 2021 comes to a close and I reflect on my first year as Dean, I鈥檓 filled with gratitude for our College of Music family and all we鈥檝e accomplished in a new and evolving hybrid learning environment. I鈥檓 especially proud of our progress to ensure an increasingly welcoming spirit within our beautifully expanded Imig Music Building.
- The newly expanded Imig Music Building strengthens the college鈥檚 Musicians鈥 Wellness Program by better supporting students in navigating the often complex and multifaceted path of being a musician.
- MarieFaith Lane, a current graduate student and Holiday Festival 2021 concertmaster, offers a first-person perspective on the spirit of this weekend鈥檚 community event.
- 鈥淲e have a strong foundation for DEI work and we鈥檙e seeing progress [...] but there鈥檚 more work鈥攎ore positive disruption鈥攁head of us before we can claim ubiquitous inclusivity in our college鈥檚 culture, classrooms and curricula.鈥
- "The way I see it, the College of Music is an innovation lab with endless potential for defining and redefining what it means to be an artist in a dynamic global environment. By developing an interdisciplinary micro credentialing program, my vision is to model an educational experience in which recognized mastery of varied competencies prepares our students for flexible, individualized careers."
- Kicking off November, the College of Music's Piano + Keyboard Program will present virtual and in-person events as part of a doctoral seminar on diverse piano literature.
- On Oct. 28, Pendulum New Music will present its second concert of the academic year. Says Assistant Professor of Composition + Pendulum Director Annika Socolofsky, "We're a rowdy bunch that loves to take risks and experience a huge range of musical genres and aesthetics."
- On Oct. 19, horn and piano faculty will collaborate with the 蜜糖直播 Boulder Graduate Wind Quintet and members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in a Faculty Tuesdays program for winds, including George Walker's "Wind Set."
- As part of the College of Music's long-running Faculty Tuesdays series, professional musicians, vocalists and ensembles in the college play concerts most Tuesdays during the fall and spring semesters, offering students and community members the opportunity to experience firsthand the renowned talent housed right here on campus.聽
- "Working in development is a way for me to take my combined knowledge and experience to talk to others about why it鈥檚 important to fund the arts."
