2023 Sher Distinguished Musician Scholars announced: Nate Bonin and Danny Kaminski—two exceptional students from ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€”were awarded full scholarships funded by John and Anna Sie who established the award in 2014.Ìý
Recent master’s graduate William Brown is second trumpet with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Springs.Ìý
Daniel Cosio—who’s pursuing a DMA in trombone performance + pedagogy—landed the position of assistant professor of trombone at the University of Northern ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥.Ìý
Madison Falkenstine—Miss ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Volunteer 2024—is pursuing a master’s in vocal pedagogy. Her platform is Fine Arts for All, bringing quality music education to every school in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥.Ìý
The ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder Center for Humanities & the Arts announced itsÌýEngaged Arts & Humanities Cohort for 2024-26—including composer-vocalist, activist and educator Nicholas Felder (DMA ’26). His works are included in a new anthology of stories by Black musicians—.Ìý
A cosmic connection to the bassoon: Isabel Goodwin graduated in December 2023 with dual Bachelor of Music degrees—one in composition and one in bassoon performance. During their four years at our College of Music, the instrument served as a gateway to creative growth, personal connections and artistic expression.Ìý
Sophomore piano major Jude Dow-Hygelund won second place and the Ebony Prize in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Performance Competition.Ìý
New Zealander-American Alan Mackwell—who’s pursuing a DMA—won the 2023 American Prize in composition-instrumental chamber music (college/university division) for his string trio, “.â€Ìý
Doctoral student James Morris won the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Composition Competition (Young Artist).Ìý
This spotlight on Adriana Ripley conveys her passion for dance, music and theatre arts that began at a young age. Born in Guatemala to a Brazilian-American mother and a Guatemalan father, she exemplifies the College of Music’s universal musician mission by pursuing degrees in musical theatre, psychology and French.Ìý
Two doctoral candidates receive funding to research abroad: Graduate students from music and education have been awarded the 2023-24 Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad fellowship—including ethnomusicologist Lydia Wagenknecht who’s researching the music and sound in Punta Arenas, Chile.ÌýShe’s working with artists and researchers to explore how the sound and music of humans and nonhumans (e.g., landscapes) are changing in response to climate change.Ìý
DMA student shares College of Music experience, future plans: Violinist Joy Yamaguchi—who graduated this spring with a DMA degree as well as a Music Theory Certificate—is poised to continue the work she started here as a student.Ìý
