Coleen Sheline 1926-2011
Coleen Sheline worked for the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ for 20 years as secretary to the director of marching bands and as administrative assistant to the Dean of the College of Music until she retired in 1990.
Coleen (Ewy) Sheline died on November 11, 2011 at a nursing home in Loveland. Coleen was born March 26, 1926 to Leonard and Luella Drage on the family farm in Campion, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥.
She was raised on the farm and then in Lyons when the family moved there in the 1930s where Coleen graduated high school. She attended business school in Denver and then worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Chicago. She moved to Estes Park to work as the secretary to superintendent of Rocky Mountain National Park.
She married Donald (Bud) Ewy in 1948 living first in Loveland and moving to Allenspark in 1950 where they ran the contract mail route between Lyons and Allenspark. Coleen took over the mail route while Bud ran a freight-hauling company and building contractor business. They had three children, Leonard (1949), Don (1952) and Leslie (1954) who attended Allenspark and Lyons schools. Bud died in 1965.
Coleen married Lyle Sheline of Longmont in 1966. Lyle had two children by his previous marriage, Linda and Stan. The family moved to Hygiene. Lyle died in 1997.
Coleen lived in Hygiene until the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease necessitated moving to assisted living and then to nursing homes. Coleen’s family extends its thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Sunrise Nursing Home in Boulder, Balfour in Louisville, and Sierra Vista in Loveland for their compassionate care.
Coleen is survived by her three children, her step-daughter, eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
In a final act of generosity Coleen had wished to donate her brain the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center in hopes of helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
A celebration of her life will be observed at Howe Funeral Home 439 Coffman Street in Longmont on December 2 at 11:00 a. m.
Contributions in Coleen’s memory may be made to the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Foundation College of Music Band Fund, 301 UCB, Boulder, CO 80309 or to the Longmont Humane Society.
