Eligibility

Current ֱ Boulder Mechanical and Environmental Engineering undergraduate students who meet the following criteria; both the below minimum requirements and the listed coursework separated by major; are eligible for admission to the BAM degree program in mechanical engineering:

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • Must have no Minimum Academic Preparation Standards (MAPS) deficiencies
    • Students who matriculated Summer 2023 and after will not need to meet MAPS as a part of BAM admission requirements
  • Must have at least junior class standing (60 credits completed)

  • MCEN 3025: Component Design
  • MCEN 3030: Computational Methods
  • MCEN 3032: Thermodynamics 2

Course substitutions listed on the MEUndergraduate Program curriculum website and cross listed courses in the ֱ Boulder catalog will be approved for substitution of the above courses for admission purposes. If you are pursuing substitution for courses, please reach out to megrad@colorado.edu before applying.

If a studentdoes not meet any of the admission requirements stated above, they are allowed to submit a Graduate Committee Petitionfor admission to megrad@colorado.edu by the below application deadlines. Approval is not guaranteed.

Students who plan to complete a double major or minor are also eligible for admission to the BAM program. If you are a double-major and already have double-counted a course toward both majors, you may not count these courses toward your BAM requirements. In such cases, in addition to the , students should contact megrad@colorado.edu.

Application Requirements

Eligible students may apply to the BAM program by completing the , available on the graduate programs Forms and Handbooks page.

Most students in the BAM program will complete the requirements of theProfessionalMS program. When applying to the BAM program, applicants should select the "MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROFESSIONAL (MCEN-MSME:C-MCENP)”designation to denote the MS Professional (non-thesis) graduate program. Applicants who want to pursue the MS Thesis option will be required to have a faculty thesis advisor already identified to be admitted.Students admitted to the BAM program can start in the MS Professional program and then switchto the MS Thesis program if they notify the graduate program atmegrad@colorado.eduthat they have secured a faculty thesis advisor and wish to complete the requirements of theMS Thesis program.

After receiving admission, students will then submit a master's continuation form and BAM supplement form. For more information, please go toPursue BAM or Concurrent Degrees | Office of the Registrar | University of ֱ Boulder.

Important Deadlines

Submission of the is recommended during either the fall or spring semesters of a student’s junior year. Applicants considering applying later in their undergraduate career should familiarize themselves with all deadlines and requirements for progressing from undergraduate to graduate status on the BAM website. Students cannot be admitted to the BAM program if they are in progress of meeting any of the requiredadmission eligibilities during their graduating BS semester. The BS degree will be awarded prior to the studentmeeting requirements and the BAM admission policies are not met:"Students who are not admitted to the Bachelor's-Accelerated Master's program with the intent application before receiving the undergraduate degree are not eligible to double-count courses between degrees."

Deadlines for applying to the BAM program areas follows:

  • January 20, 2025for students graduating with their BS in spring 2025
  • February 20, 2025for students graduating with their BS in summer 2025
  • September 20, 2024for students graduating with their BS in fall 2024
