Resources for Students/Faculty/Staff
Below is general information. If you have other questions or need additional information about department operations, contact one of the appropriate staff members.
Building Access
During the renovation of our permanent home, the historic Hellems building, which is slated to last two years (August 2023-August 2025), the Department of Linguistics is wholly located in the Lucile Berkeley Buchanan Building or LBB (1500 Central Campus Mall) on the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder's Main Campus. LBB is immediately due west of Hellems. The building is open and can be accessed by ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder faculty, staff, students, and affiliates between the hours of 7am and 10pm, Monday through Friday.
Linguistics faculty, staff, and students who require keys to an LBB office or lab, or extended access to LBB (outside 7am-10pm on weekdays, and on weekends/holidays) should fill out the form linked below. Students who require extended access to the building and/or need keys to any labs or office spaces require the permission of their faculty advisor/supervisor, and must attach confirmation of that permission to their request.
Meeting Room Reservations
During our two-year stay in LBB, the Department of Linguistics has very limited access to meeting space. To the extent possible, we will reserve classroom space for critical needs like thesis defenses. If you need a meeting room for a regularly scheduled or one-off meeting (with an academic purpose), please make a reservation on EMS where you can reserve a room for an academic purpose. If you need access to EMS, please reach out to Ethan McGinnis. Linguistics controls or has access to several lab/seminar rooms within LBB that we can schedule in cooperation with the , our affiliated center in LBB. We currently have five rooms that you can now reserve for a meeting, office hours, study session etc. in the EMS calendar system. This is ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s calendar system that we now are able to use specifically for our five LING rooms that are available. We have four rooms that can be scheduled by you directly in . They are LBB 122A, LBB 150, LBB 353, LBB 434.
What this means to you:
- You will be able to go into the web calendar and reserve a space. We suggest you reserve in advance, as same-day reservations may be possible but are not guaranteed.
- Ethan and Kris Stenzel have keys that can be given to you at the time you are using the space. These keys will need to be picked up right before using the space and returned to one of us after you are done using the space. If you picked up the key from Kris, or Ethan and can’t find either when your meeting is over, slip it under Ethan’s door (LBB 104).
- Please respect the beginning and end time of your reservation so that others are not kept waiting. Also, please be aware that many of these rooms connect to other rooms and sound travels easily.
- If you create garbage while using the room, please empty it in the large hallway trash bins on each floor. Please leave the room clean. The janitorial staff does not go into the offices to clean up. It is easy to reserve a space just walk through the steps below. Let us know if you have questions.
