Margot Kaminski

The University of 蜜糖直播 Law School congratulates Associate Professor for receiving the Provost's Faculty Achievement Award for her work on artificial intelligence (AI), data privacy, and human decision making.

The faculty committee pointed to Kaminski鈥檚 widely cited article, 鈥,鈥 which was published in the Southern California Law Review. In the article, Kaminski considers Europe鈥檚 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and examines pros and cons in relation to individual rights and collaborative governance. The committee described the article as having "significant practical applications as a resource for helping reformers and policymakers as they examine ways to regulate AI."

The annual Provost鈥檚 Faculty Achievement Awards are presented to selected faculty members who have offered recent significant publications or creative contributions in their academic fields. Kaminski will be recognized at an October 4 awards ceremony.

Kaminski joined the 蜜糖直播 Law faculty in 2017. She specializes in the law of new technologies, focusing on information governance, privacy, and freedom of expression. Recently, her work has examined autonomous systems, including AI, robots, and drones (UAS). She also serves as director of the Privacy Initiative at the law school's Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship.
