Neural Mechanisms Of Language Processing
My research investigates how people understand language. Most of my work uses neuroimaging and behavioral techniques, especially scalp-recorded event-related potentials (ERPs) to study the cognitive and neural mechanisms of language processing.Ìý Some of this researchÌýinvestigates the processes that allow people to recognizeÌýword recognition during reading, focusing on rapid neural events that occur within the initial 200 milliseconds of encountering a word. ÌýOther parts of my researchÌýfocusÌýon the processes that allow words to be combined into larger representations, such as sentences (sentence processing).ÌýÌýÌý

Bio
I received my Ph.D. in experimental psychology fromÌý and then did post-doctoral training in electro-physiological methods atÌý. Before becoming a psychologist, I studied computer science atÌýÌýand worked in computational linguistics atÌý.Ìý

For Prospective Grad Students
I supervise Ph.D. students in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder.Ìý Application information can be found at the department'sÌý.Ìý I have also worked closely with graduate students in theÌýÌýand theÌý.Ìý If you would like to work with me as a student in one of those departments, you can contact me directly but also should communicate with a faculty supervisor in your home department.
