Cognitive Science Graduate Certificate

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder graduate students enrolled and in good standing in one of the following departments/units can apply to the ICSÌýCognitive Science Graduate Certificate Program.

ATLAS Institute,Ìý; Computer Science; Information Science;ÌýIntegrative Physiology; Linguistics;ÌýPhilosophy;ÌýPsychology and Neuroscience; School of Education;ÌýSpeech, Language,ÌýHearing Sciences.ÌýStudents enrolledÌýin graduate programsÌýfrom other departments may requestÌýapproval to participate.

ApplyÌýby completing the following threeÌýsteps. Submit all items toÌýtoÌýICSPrograms@colorado.edu.

Step 1Submit an ICS Graduate Program Application FormÌý
Step 2Submit an Unofficial Transcript from your department/unitÌýÌý
Step 3Submit a Graduate Certificate Program Plan of Study/Progress Report

The Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science Program consists of the completion of the following course requirements.

Required Core Courses:Ìý

  • An introductory course, Issues and Methods in Cognitive Science (3 units)Ìý
  • Topics in Cognitive Science (1 unit), taken twice (2 semesters)

Additional Courses:

  • Three cognitive science elective courses, all at least 2 credit hours.
    • Approved courses are listed in the Cognitive Science Course Catalog.
    • In addition to the listed coursesÌýthere are additional ad hoc courses offered each semester. These courses areÌýannounced by ICS to enrolled students.
  • TheseÌýcourses must be from the approved course list, and at least two of the courses must be fromÌýtwo different departmentsÌýoutside of the student’s home department.

*Independent Study: if a student needs to replace one required course to satisfy program requirements due to unavoidable scheduling issues,complete and submit the Independent Study Approval Form to ICSPrograms@colorado.edu.

ÌýFour Steps to Complete the Program

Step 1Complete all required courses with a minimum grade of B.
Step 2Submit an Unofficial Transcript to the Academic Program Director at ICSPrograms@colorado.edu. The Director will confirm whether all required courses have been completed.
Step 3Complete the Graduate Certificate Program Plan of Study/Progress Report.ÌýSubmit the completed form electronically to ICSPrograms@colorado.edu.
Step 4The Academic Program Director will review the transcript, Progress Reports to confirm that requirements were met. Once approved, ICS will contact the Registrar's Office to include the Certificate on the student's official transcdript. Certificates are awarded at the end of academic year ICS celebration.
