Adjustments to Financial Aid

There are a variety of circumstances that may require an adjustment to a student’s financial aid. Students should understand how dropping and adding courses, receiving other aid, or corrections on their FAFSA will impact their aid.

Drug Conviction

Students who have been convicted under federal or state law for possession or sale of a controlled substance while receiving Title IV aid are no longer suspended from recieving financial aid. Learn more.

FERPA

The Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records (which includes financial aid).

Repeat Coursework

If you received a grade of “D-” or better for a course, you may only retake the course once and be eligible to receive financial aid. Financial aid cannot pay for more than one repeated course with a passing grade even if your major or program requires you to retake it. Repeat courses do not count toward minimum enrollment requirements to receive aid.

If you previously took a course and received a grade of “F” or did not complete, financial aid can pay toward retaking the course(s); however, multiple failed courses could lead to a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) violation.

This policy explains the impact on financial aid for students who withdraw, cancel enrollment, drop to zero hours, take a leave of absence or are dismissed.
