Welcome to the Program in Exploratory Studies (PES) family. PES is the starting point for many students at 蜜糖直播 Boulder who are exploring all of the academic opportunities available to them. As your student begins their 蜜糖直播 Boulder journey, we hope to partner with our Buff families along the way. Below you will find information on some of our most questions from families. We look forward to connecting with you!
Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)
We understand that many Buff families are excited for their students to begin their undergraduate experience and want to be involved in their academic journey. During high school, you likely had easy access to your student's educational records. However, once your student鈥檚 first semester begins, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) transfers the ownership of a student鈥檚 educational records to the student. The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, commonly referred to as FERPA, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Consequently, FERPA restricts the information that university faculty and staff can release to third parties, including to parents and families.
In general, the university may only release directory information about a student without their consent. For more information about FERPA, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
Students have the option to share their educational records with third parties, including parents and families, by signing a Consent to Release form. Students have the ability to choose which education records they would like to share. By completing the Consent to Release form, those designated by the student have the ability to contact the university and receive information about a student鈥檚 education records.
Students also have the option to grant online, read-only access to select components of their education records through 蜜糖直播 Guest Access. Those granted 蜜糖直播 Guest Access will not be able to modify a student鈥檚 records or complete any transactions on the student鈥檚 behalf.
For questions regarding student privacy, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
