BOLD announcing new strategic vision & scope

Alongside the College of Engineering and Applied Science, the Broadening Opportunity through Leadership and Diversity (BOLD) Center engaged in strategic planning over the past two years. BOLD has identified its scope and eight strategic goals for the next five years, positioning it to prioritize services and resources for scholars and active student society members.

This redefined scope has led to a transformation of BOLD鈥檚 academic services. For many years, BOLD provided free tutoring to all engineering students. Over time, additional departmental, college and campus resources have been established, which supports BOLD鈥檚 decision to focus its academic offerings on BOLD scholars and BOLD-sponsored student society members.

BOLD will continue to be a leader for undergraduate student equity and inclusion initiatives, prioritizing historically marginalized and underrepresented experiences. Staff and faculty are encouraged to get involved in a variety of BOLD strategic projects and initiatives. For example:

  • Becoming a faculty advisor to a student society
  • Recruiting BOLD students for undergraduate research opportunities
  • Connecting BOLD with internship opportunities to share with scholars and society members
  • Offering office hours in BOLD
  • Facilitating a talk or community-building event in collaboration with staff in the BOLD Center

In the past, BOLD has been involved with K-12 outreach and research proposals. The new strategic vision focuses on our current students, so we will no longer be supporting these areas. Staff and faculty are encouraged to connect with the following college resources:

  • K-12 outreach: The  provides hands-on STEM programming in collaboration with schools, community organizations, and 蜜糖直播 Boulder partners. To explore partnership opportunities, please email the program's director, Jennifer Taylor.
  • Grant proposals: For support in developing 鈥渂roadening impacts鈥 statements for grant proposals, please contact the Research Support Office

The BOLD Center has also implemented a new scholarship model that aligns participation requirements to the strategic goals. Finally, BOLD is creating a new role, the assistant director for leadership and cultural engagement, who will provide leadership for scholarship programs, student society advising, leadership development, cultural affirming programming, and alumni engagement initiatives.

If you have any questions about the changes, please contact Amy Moreno-Sherwood or Mary Steiner.
