Teacher Licensure
Why ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder?
We offer a supportive community committed to democracy, diversity, and social justice.  As a teacher licensure student, we also offer extensive experience in local classrooms, interaction with nationally renowned faculty, and shared commitments to educational equity for all students.
The world needs more teachers like you.
The School of Education is dedicated to preparing teachers to advance educational equity and social justice. Teacher candidates explore instructional methods specific to their content areas, examine the social foundations of education, and learn specific strategies to meet all students’ needs in today’s classrooms. We offer programs for undergraduate teacher candidates interested in elementary education in grades K-6 or secondary education for grades 7-12, post-BA candidates who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and want to focus on teacher licensure, and students interested in earning a Master's degree plus teacher licensure.
Teacher Licensure Pathways
We offer an BA in Elementary Education for those interested in teaching grades K-6, and a BA in Middle and High School Teaching for teacher candidates interested in a teaching license for grades 7-12. The BA in Middle and High School Teaching is a dual-degree program and students simultaneously pursue and earn BA or BS degrees in their content area major suitable for the subject they want to teach.

Master's + Teacher Licensure
The MA + program leads to a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ initial teacher licensure in secondary (grades 7th-12th) education plus a Master’s of Arts in education in Curriculum and Instruction.
Candidates have earned a bachelor’s degree within the liberal arts from an accredited institution of higher education and want to elaborate and deepen the close connections between fieldwork and coursework to become a teacher.
Out-of-State Licensing or Reciprocity of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Licensure in Other States
Because each state has its own laws and standards regarding teacher preparation, our teacher education programs do not prepare candidates for licensure in states other than ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥. If you are planning to seek professional licensure or certification in a state other than ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥, it is strongly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing entity in the state in which you are, or plan to be, located in order to seek information and guidance regarding licensure or certification requirements and how the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ license may transfer in advance of program completion. If you will have to take an additional course or take a different licensure exam in order to transfer your license, then your contact will allow you to plan for that and avoid surprises.
