Our Mission

We are committed to creating an environment where all students feel seen and welcome. Navigating issues of identity-based trauma, discrimination, stereotypes and oppression can be difficult to do on our own. We have created this page as a resource for those who are seeking support pertaining to identity, allyship and education.Ìý

At CAPS we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels seen and welcome. We strive to affirm and acknowledge all forms of diversity and identity, as well as the roles our individual and collective backgrounds play in our everyday lives. We understand that we have not always provided care that affirms all identities held within our ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ community, which has had the potential to cause and perpetuate harm. CAPS has committed to working toward providing culturally competent and responsive care and will actively adjust our services as we grow in our understanding of best practices. CAPS also recognizes and acknowledges the connection between emotional well-being and issues pertaining to social justice. Many forms of oppression are highly visible in the media as well as in our everyday lives, impacting our well-being and mental health. Emotions such as outrage, sadness, helplessness, fatigue and numbness may arise as a result of witnessing violence and oppression in the world. CAPS stands with our students, staff and faculty in condemning all forms of oppression on our campus and beyond.Ìý We recognize that racial trauma, discrimination, stereotypes and oppression are pervasive and often go unnoticed. This lack of widespread acknowledgment can leave communities feeling unheard, invalidated and alone. Navigating these issues alone can be challenging. That’s why we have created this page as a statement of support for the unheard and a resource for those who are seeking support pertaining to identity, allyship and education.Ìý
