Christopher Carruth
- Assistant Teaching Professor
- INFORMATION SCIENCE
Christopher M. Carruth is an artist and educator with an interdisciplinary background spanning information sciences, media theory and digital arts. Chris teaches courses in creative coding as well as the ethical, philosophical and societal impacts of computation in the modern world. His research and teaching interests include digital art, digital cultures, speculative design and innovative pedagogy.
For his research and practice, the complexities which emerge from digital cultures and our technologized landscapes are research subjects, while the methods of interaction, exploration, and engagement collapse into a practice that itself formally resolves itself as creative coding, time-based media, installation, poetics, performance and new media. While conducted through and with technologies, the work is always/all ways a decidedly humanistic inquiry.
His artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions such as Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, The Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces, and The Dairy Arts Center in Boulder. Most recently he showed work at the 27th International Symposium on Electronic Art in Barcelona, Spain.
Chris received his MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, BC where his focus was in digital arts, electronic literature, and contemplative computation. He also holds a MS in technology, media, and society from the University of أغجاض±²¥ Boulder, wherein he worked towards expanding STEM engagement and digital literacy with marginalized populations via creative expression. He earned his BS in information systems from The University of أغجاض±²¥ أغجاض±²¥ Springs.
