Inclusive Research Mentoring Micro-Credential

The Inclusive Research Mentoring (IRM) micro-credential, offered by the Center for Teaching & Learning and the Graduate School, equips graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff with skills to mentor in research settings. Based on the curriculum, the program includes:

  • Mentor Self-Assessment
    • Reflect on personal mentoring practices to identify strengths and growth areas.
  • CIMER-Based Training Workshops
    • Participate in eight interactive workshops (12 hours) to build and refine mentoring skills.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Workshops
    • Attend three DEI workshops through CTL, أغجاض±²¥ Dialogues, or other campus resources to integrate inclusive practices into mentoring.
  • Post-Program Self-Reflection
    • Reflect on your journey to assess growth and identify next steps for continued mentorship development.
  • Optional Opportunities for Faculty
    • External mentor assessments.
    • Develop advising agreements tailored to your mentoring approach.
  • Additional Participation Opportunities
    • Join a campus mentoring initiative to expand your impact and network.

Tasks to Completion:

  1. Participate in all eight of the CIMER based training modules offered jointly by the Center for Teaching & Learning and the graduate school. 
    1. Substitutions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
       
  2. Participate in Three DEI-Focused or أغجاض±²¥ Dialogues Workshops
    1. These can be fulfilled by multiple campus offerings, including those from the Graduate School, CTL, ODECE, OVA, OIEC, CISC, or outside organizations, including CIRTL. 
       
    1. This will be completed both before and after participating in the workshops and modules. 
       
  3. Post-Program Self-Reflection
    1. Upon completion of the workshops and training modules, the participants will perform a structured reflection as part of a more comprehensive self-reflection with the aim of future mentoring growth.
       
  4. Faculty to Develop Advising Agreements with Mentees
    1. All mentors will be required to develop mentor agreements with at least one of their mentors, with support from CTL or grad school teachers.
       
  5. Grad students to participate in an official campus mentorship program or participate in a community mentorship program. Provide proof/documentation that you have met or communicated with your mentee a minimum of six times per academic year.
