Now in its second year, the Embark Deep Tech Startup Creator, offered by Venture Partners at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder, matches business minds outside the university with breakthrough inventions created within its walls and provides funding for those ventures. The application for entrepreneurs is now open for the 2024 cohort.

The project saw its genesis more than 20 years ago, when a student approached Matt Rhode (Aerospace Engineering Sciences) about hybrid rockets, which are safer than solid fuel propulsion and not subject to the same U.S. government export restrictions that the turbo pumps necessary for liquid rockets are.

Human-centered AI systems prioritize human needs, values, expectations and experiences, aiming for equitable and ethical outcomes. In disaster and emergency management, this includes increased representation of data from marginalized groups and communication strategies that resonate with at-risk communities.

From developing new therapies that help patients cope with anxiety to discovering new ways to treat resistant breast cancer, ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder researchers are pushing boundaries in cancer research. In recognition of National Cancer Research Month, explore a sampling of recent projects.

From featured presenter Dr. Anu Taranath to campus initiatives exhibits, this year’s summit served as a pivotal gathering for bringing people together to explore solutions, forge partnerships and celebrate achievements in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder climate and sustainability initiatives.

The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) Arts & Humanities Grant Program announced nearly $95,000 in combined funding for 17 projects exploring topics in disciplines from Asian languages and environmental design to composition and Classics.

The four selected projects seek to better understand and address some of society’s most pressing challenges by sparking the formation of diverse teams of research leaders and perspectives from colleges, departments and research institutes across campus.

Campus researchers and inventors created a strong crop of 162 breakthrough technologies this past year. These spanned the breadth of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder’s research expertise, with innovations in climate tech, biotechnology, quantum science, optics and aerospace.

The 2024 New Venture Challenge (NVC) culminated in a final showcase on April 17 in front of a live audience cheering on the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder’s next big innovations. At an event filled with great ideas and even greater entrepreneurial spirit, five teams competed for $165,000 in prize money.
