鈥淲hen I was young, I loved history. I grew up around a lot of Black history in my life,鈥 says the 蜜糖直播 Boulder assistant professor of U.S. and African American history.听

So, while pursuing her PhD, she wrote her dissertation on African American perspectives on the Civil War. Now, she is turning her dissertation into a book, tentatively titled They Knew What the War Was 蜜糖直播: African Americans and the Memory of the Civil War.听

Lawrence-Sanders says she loves teaching history鈥攁nd Civil War history in particular鈥 because of its importance to understanding current events: 鈥淎nything you want to know about what鈥檚 happening now鈥攖he answer is history.鈥澨
