Project DescriptionÌý

The NIST Ion Storage group (ISG) conducts experiments with trapped ions for applications in quantum information, computing and simulation. These experiments range from fundamental quantum physics to practical development of quantum-enhanced measurement technologies. Within the NIST ISG, this project aims to improve the performance of key elements of trapped-ion-based quantum information processors, including surface-electrode ion traps, ion transport and arrays, laser- and microwave-based quantum gates, mixed atomic species techniques, hybrid quantum systems, and advanced quantum measurement techniques.
