��ֱ��PD responded to a report of a sexual assault incident in Williams Village North on Aug. 17, 2022. A ��ֱ�� Safety Alert was sent via email to the campus community in the early morning hours of Aug. 18, 2022.

��ֱ��PD takes all allegations of sexual assault very seriously and our top priority is the safety and well-being of our campus community while also being transparent about police processes.

��ֱ��PD investigators are specially-trained in a science-based interview methodology called FETI (Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview), which emphasizes taking care not to re-traumatize crime victims while gathering information. We are utilizing this training in this case and others. In addition, we have an embedded victim advocate and licensed clinician who co-respond with officers on cases involving trauma and mental health needs or concerns.

As this is an active investigation, ��ֱ��PD is unable to provide specific details, but we are thoroughly looking into all aspects of this case with the aim of arriving at a successful resolution. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.

We realize this incident has shaken our campus community. Again, we are committed to increasing security measures throughout the ��ֱ�� Boulder campus and in residence halls while the investigation continues. Some of the protective initiatives currently being implemented by ��ֱ��PD include increased patrols by car, bike and on foot. Students, faculty and staff may see increased patrols by both Police Officers and Residential Service Officers.

As a full-service police agency providing community-based public safety services to our campus community, we also employ these protective measures on a continuous basis.

Residential Service Officers (RSOs) support the residential community on a daily basis, providing education and appropriate enforcement on lower-level violations in residence halls. RSOs are in close contact with Hall Directors and Residential Advisors and are equipped for immediate communication with Police Officers, as needed.
Community Safety Officials (CSOs) also regularly provide professional staff security services for special events, in select buildings, and provide door lock monitoring services. CSOs walk the campus checking to be sure doors are locked as appropriate, not propped open and are fully functional.
��ֱ��PD is a 24/7/365 public safety agency, which means campus affiliates may see patrols taking place at any time of the day or night.

Security measures in residence halls include:
- Electronic key access
- Security cameras outside every residence hall and in elevators Locks on doors
- Peepholes in room doors so residents can see who is outside of doors
- Community Center front desks are regularly staffed
- Halls fully-staffed with live-in Residence Advisors (RAs) on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Partnership with ��ֱ��PD, including RSO patrols, for security measures

The University of ��ֱ�� Police Department (��ֱ��PD) confirms that the suspect that matches the description in a motor vehicle theft and robbery that occurred on the ��ֱ�� Boulder campus this morning has been apprehended. The suspect was arrested at approximately 5:25 p.m. near Hays, Kansas. The stolen vehicle was also recovered.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Kansas Highway Patrol after a high speed chase. There is no danger to the public and no injuries have been reported.

At approximately 9:30 this morning, Friday, March 18, ��ֱ��PD was notified of a report of an unidentified male who approached the reporting party near Cheyenne-Arapaho residence hall and Wardenburg Health Center. The suspect was carrying a black bag or backpack. He demanded that the reporting party give him his keys and personal belongings. The suspect then stole the reporting party’s vehicle. The reporting party said the suspect had his hand in the black bag through the entirety of the interaction leading the reporting party to believe the suspect was armed.

��ֱ��PD issued a timely warning about the incident this morning in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

“The safety of our campus community is our highest priority. We are grateful that nobody was injured either this morning or during the arrest in Kansas. We thank our police partners at Kansas Highway Patrol for their quick action,” said ��ֱ��PD Chief Doreen Jokerst.
