Police received a report of a white 2016 Hyundai Tucson stolen from lot 622 at Williams Village at approximately 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, followed by a report of an attempted theft of a white Kia Forte in the same lot at approximately 8:45 p.m. Dec. 10.&nbsp;Police believe the incidents are connected. No one was injured and police do not believe there is a threat to life or safety. The suspect entered the facility by providing false information to staff and then stole or ransacked multiple backpacks from hallway cubbies and took credit cards and cash from the backpacks. One of the credit cards was used to purchase more than $400 in Visa gift cards at a local convenience store. The suspect is believed to be involved in a similar case at the Rec Center on March 29, 2021, that was reported through our online system.</p> <p>The suspect was perceived to be:</p> <ul> <li>White male</li> <li>6’2”-6’4”</li> <li>250-280 pounds</li> <li>Short hair, possibly gray or light-colored</li> <li>Tattoo on right calf</li> <li>Wearing blue shorts and a Reebok sweatshirt</li> <li>Had a cane on March 29, but not on March 31</li> <li>Green and white buff</li> <li>Tan ballcap</li> </ul> <p>ֱPD is investigating these incidents. We can never express to you how much that means to all of the members of our department. In fact, ֱ Boulder is one of four Boulder County agencies staffing their&nbsp;own dispatch center.</p> <p>When you call 911 from a campus landline phone, you will be automatically connected with the ֱPD dispatch center. If you call from a cell phone, your call will be answered by the city of Boulder dispatch center.&nbsp;If you have a medical emergency, they will take your call and send medical assistance. If you have any other needs they will transfer you to the ֱPD dispatch center right away.</p> <p>Our dispatchers are a vital link between our community and our public safety services. Every year, the ֱPD communications center answers more than 25,000 phone calls through 911 and the non-emergency phone number. They take calls about campus parking complaints, open door requests, thefts, vandalism, threats, assaults, trespasses, suspicious persons, vehicles or objects, and requests for general information. The dispatchers are also responsible for logging all calls for service for police and fire in the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and then broadcasting that information to the officers on the streets. They are the unseen partner of the emergency responder providing them with needed information and support while sitting in a small room in front of a bank of computer screens.</p> <p>We are now hiring police dispatcher trainees. The victims reported that someone entered their apartment between 1:30 and 3 a.m. through an unlocked sliding patio door. One person was in the apartment when the burglary occurred, but did not have contact with the suspect and was not aware of the incident until later. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that this was the second time that someone had entered this apartment and taken items. A previous burglary occurred on Jan. 8, 2021. That incident had not been previously reported.</p> <p>Several identification items were taken this morning, including a passport, student visa, clothes, shoes, and a wallet with a driver’s license and debit and credit cards. A large hiking backpack was also taken. The suspect appears to have left behind some of their own clothing items. Officers followed bike tracks in the snow leading away from the apartment until they led to a plowed parking lot and the trail ended.</p> <p>ֱPD is currently investigating the incident. The victim reported that the incident took place in the wooded area along the bike path that traverses down the hill from Main Campus. At this time, BPD is still gathering suspect information.</p> <p>The Boulder Police Department is currently investigating the incident. Please avoid the area. Don’t ignore situations that seem problematic or indicators that someone is trying to take advantage of a person who may be vulnerable.</li> <li>When walking, get your head off of your phone and be aware of your surroundings.</li> <li>Close and lock your doors and windows to help prevent burglaries and assaults.</li> <li>All residence hall residents should be conscientious about any strangers trying to enter buildings without an escort or by "tailgating" behind someone who unlocked the door.</li> <li>Doors leading to living areas in residence halls remain locked 24 hours a day and visitors must be escorted by a hall resident. Do not prop open doors.</li> <li>In case of emergency, make sure you get the message.
