Abbas Hassani receives the 2023 CMS Award from Patty McBride, CMS Spokesperson.

Abbas Hassani, a graduate student in the high energy physics group, has been recognized with a for his outstanding contributions to the Silicon Pixel Detector in 2023.Ìý

The CMS experiment is one of two large particle physics detectors operating at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory. The collaboration involves more than 6,000 individuals from around the world.Ìý

The CMS Excellence Awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the strength of CMS and who have made substantial and excellent contributions to the project and construction of the CMS sub-detectors. The awards are given annually.Ìý

Hassani’s award citation reads “for dedicated and exceptional service to maintaining the PIXEL DAQ system.â€ÌýÌý

Hassani has served as the Pixel data acquisition convener for two years. In this role, he was responsible for ensuring the silicon pixel system was smoothly operating during data-taking using Large Hadron Collider collisions. Hassani often fixed problems himself as they arose or referred to other expertise as needed.Ìý
