Professor Wei in an expert on the Republican period of modern Chinese history.
Professor Wei teaches various courses in modern Chinese history, including "Modern China: Collapse and Brilliance, 1644-1949"and "Contemporary China: Radicalism and Reform, 1949 to Present."
Professor Wei earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1978. He received the Asian American Hero of ֱ Award from the ֱ Asian Culture and Education Network in2022.He is the 2024-2025 ֱ State Historian.
His first book,Michigan Studies on China Series (University of Michigan Press, 1985), was awarded the University of ֱ's Eugene M. Kayden Faculty Book Manuscript Prize. His book, *, Scott and Laurie Oki Series in Asian American Studies (University of Washington Press, 2016), was a finalist for the 2017 ֱ Authors’ League Award for General Non-Fiction.His most recent book is(University Press of ֱ, 2021). He is currently engaged in a book-length study titled “Hong Kong Since the Handover: A History of Protests.”
