The Srivastava-Waelde Scholarship also helped get recent graduate Kim (CompSci’21) over the finish line of his degree. Kim’s family came to ֱ from South Korea when he was 10, and he is a graduate of Highlands Ranch High School.
Kim originally chose ֱ Boulder in part because of generous scholarship and financial aid offers that helped to relieve the cost burden on him and his family. But during his senior year at ֱ Boulder, he became a part-time student, which meant he lost almost all those aid opportunities.
“Needless to say, I was stressed about my ability to afford college when I was so close to graduating,” Kim said.
When he learned he would receive the scholarship, he said he felt a combination of relief and joy.
“I cannot thank Ashok and Lynn enough for their generosity,” Kim said. “Thanks to the opportunity, I was able to complete a successful last year of my undergraduate career.”
Kim recently moved to Austin, Texas, for a software development role at Expedia Group.
“The experience so far has been great! Transitioning to a new city and having a fresh start without knowing anyone in the area was daunting at first, but I am more excited than scared about the opportunities here and my ability to grow as an individual,” he said.
