He toldThe Denver Posthis hope is entrepreneurs will be able to feed off of each others’ ideas to start successful businesses. The 7,000-square-foot-building at 15th and Delgany streets includes Internet access, a kitchen and a conference room. Henry’s plan is to open 100 co-working locations nationwide. He lives in Boulder.

Cultural anthropologist Laura DeLuca (MAnth’96; PhD’02), founder of impact travel venture Discover with DeLuca, has collaborated with fellow alum Brian Ash (Econ’13), co-founder of African eco-lodge Bomanoma, to plan and lead a “travel like an anthropologist” safari through Narok, Kenya, and Maasai Mara this summer. The trip will be an immersive cultural experience to support the surrounding communities and to teach about Maasai culture, for an overall safari venture centered on fun, global fluency and making a difference.

Nicole Kingham (CommDisor) was selected to join the 2021 board of directors of the American Academy of Audiology. Nicole earned her master’s degree in audiology at the University of Washington. She currently works with practice development groups to help implement audiology assistants or technicians into private practice audiology and medical ear, nose and throat clinics. Nicole has developed an audiology assistant training program that is used in many clinics around the United States.

Melissa Glick (Advert’96), CEO of information technology firm Think Network Technologies, received the Morley Ballantine Award on Jan. 18 at the Durango Chamber of Commerce’s annual award ceremony at Fort Lewis College. The award honors women for their work in business and philanthropy. In 2014, Glick co-founded the Professional Women’s Network of Durango to connect women in the Four Corners area by providing a community in which they could mentor, guide and support each other through professional development, social events and volunteering.

Lija Fisher(Thtr) published her first novel,The Cryptid Catcher. The children’s adventure story tells of a boy in search of the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. Lija, who was born in Istanbul, Turkey, became fascinated with cryptozoology after reading about well-organized hunting parties that tracked cryptids, or legendary creatures, in the wilderness. The next book in the series,The Cryptid Keeper, will be published in 2019.

John redesigned an engine that has been used in conjunction with solar dishes and is being redesigned to provide power in remote locations. The generator is being used in Europe, Asia and America. Henry Throop (MAstroPhys; PhD’00) was awarded the Avis Bohlen Award for Exemplary Performance by the American Foreign Service Association in a ceremony held at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. Henry is a senior scientist with the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Ariz. He works remotely from his postings in Mumbai, Pretoria, Mexico City and D.C. with his wife, Heidi Hattenbach, a foreign service officer, and their three children.
